To the men of the Hilbert. I am Tom Charles (the third) son of Thomas J. Charles, CO. My father left active duty after the decommissioning of the Hilbert and went to dental school at Georgetown Univ. He remained in the Reserves as a Dental Officer and returned to active duty in 1959 where he served on several shore stations and ships until retiring in 1970 in Norfolk,after a 27 year career. He married my mother Anne Marie in 1950 and had 3 children. He remained in the Norfolk area for the rest of his life and passed away in 1994 at the age of 72. He continued an intensely active interest in Naval History and I know he was active in the DE association. |
